So as much as I would love to give it a 5, I can’t. It’s like I filled my Rangers quota for the day. I couldn’t force myself to sit through another cookie-cutter episode filled with bad acting and predictable endings. After watching 3 episodes a night, I was done. I found that I could still sing along to the theme song when it played (after God knows how many years).īut I’m not rating this solely by nostalgia. I remember these episodes and I grew up wanting to be the Pink Ranger. If I was rating this on nostalgia alone, I would give this a 5. (Helpful hint, the truly awesome ones were usually broken into parts.) Those were the episodes I kept hoping to see. A couple I can’t believe they even put in a kids’ show. However, the other 25% of the plot lines were actually pretty diabolical. I’ve seen more creativity in a room of sleeping 2 year olds. Pig monsters that eat everything in sight. They didn’t make a big deal over their relationship (probably because 5 year olds see people kissing and go, “EAs for Rita and her monsters, 75% of the time, the plot line is completely ridiculous. He always does the sweetest things for her. Tommy is the one Kimberly is romantically linked to. My brother did not appreciate the fact that I tended to *squee* when Tommy came on the screen. The hair is horrendous most of the time, but other than that, Tommy is utterly swoon-worthy. If you need help, Trini is there to offer her assistance. Trini is that girl in school who is friends with everyone. She’s usually the one who translates what he says into something that Kimberly can understand. She’s the second smartest in the group behind Billy. Trini is the Yellow Ranger (again…controversy due to ethnicity). It made him seem like more of a sweetheart when he learned to overcome them. His fears are constantly brought to light and exploited by Rita Repulsa. Zack is also probably the most vulnerable of all the characters. I mean, they all make jokes, but Zack is the one most likely to come up with something on the fly. He’s the most like comic relief the group has. Zack is the Black Ranger (which I heard caused a lot of controversy because of his ethnicity). Kimberly’s kind of the ditz of the group, which is endearing at times, but also ungodly annoying when it’s stuff she already knows. I liked having that because now that I’m too old to be thrilled by the fights alone, a nice kiss here and there kept me entertained. Why did 90s fashion have to suck so bad?Īs a character, Kimberly is one of the two romantically linked characters we have. Though, again, some of Kimberly’s outfits need to be burned/destroyed/corroded by acid. Always my favorite and continues to be my favorite.

But as a character, Billy’s the sweet nerd. I don’t know if it was because he was already trying really hard to be nerdy that anything other than that became a serious challenge, but some episodes were painful to watch. (Are you seeing the correlation yet between their ranger color and what color they wear?) No offense to Billy the character, but he was the worst actor of the bunch. But as the episodes progressed, you actually get to see that he is a leader. It seemed like default in the beginning just because he was red. Isn’t he just the cutest? When I first saw him again, I was like, “Whoa! He’s totally hotter than I remember!” Although there are definitely some of his outfits that need to be sacrificed to the gods of 90s fashion and burned.Īs Jason’s character came out in the series, I found that I respected him as the leader more than I had in the beginning. This is Jason, otherwise known as the Red Ranger. I guess I’ll start with the characters, because they are the 2nd most important thing about the show (after the fights). Actually, it started as a joke to my brother, “Hey, they have the Power Rangers on Netflix. So I jumped at the chance to watch them again when they came on Netflix. As a child of the 90s (with a younger brother into this kind of stuff), I grew up on the Power Rangers as much as I did on Disney princesses. It’s taken me about a month to do, but I have finally finished watching the entire first season of Power Rangers.
